Christmas Week in the Bahamas

After a wintry weekend celebration with Kathleen's parents in Chicago, we traveled south (way south!) to Hopetown in the Bahamas with the Carters and extended Carrington clan for Christmas week. The island where we stayed (Elbow Cay) is where Dax's Grandpa Ken and Grandma Priscilla spent many happy years residing in the "Conch Shell." Here are a few photographic highlights from the week, including a belly picture of Kathleen in her 22nd week. Happy Holidays!

20 week Ultrasound

Yesterday was our long-awaited 20 week doctors appointment, in which the sex of the baby was finally revealed to two eager parents. After a lengthy ultrasound, where we got an in-depth explanation of our baby's anatomy (including beating heart, waving arms, etc.) the technician made her determination... A boy!

Being the diligent lawyer that he is, Dax confirmed with the doctor that the penis was indeed a penis (not the umbilical cord) and asked for percentages on certainty. After confirmation from the doctor, nurse, and technician, we are pleased to announce we are having a son!

Kathleen immediately started planning a green nursery with blue accents, while Dax bought out the sports section of our local Target.

The images are fairly grainy, but we'd like to share these 20 week profile images of our baby boy... (In the first, he's actually waving to you. Or doing a Seminole chop. We can't decide. The second is a closeup of his better side.) :)

FYI, you can always double click on any images on the blog to get a bigger picture.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Dax and Kathleen realized while trimming the tree that this will be Killa's last Christmas as an only child. So we took a picture to commemorate the moment. We apologize for the blurriness, but Kathleen used 4 strands of lights on the tree which made this shot impossible! (She wouldn't dare blame it on Dax for his shoddy tripod skills!)

We've included a few other shots that show off Kathleen's hard work making our house look Christmas-y.

Kathleen at 18 weeks.

Here is a picture of Kathleen at 18 weeks while in Vero Beach with her parents for Thanksgiving.
(It sure is nice to have a world class photographer for a mom!) It's debatable whether the belly expansion in the last two weeks has resulted from baby growth or from the pumpkin pie squares...

Kathleen at 16 weeks.

Here is a picture of Kathleen at 16 weeks. Who would have thought that a tiny belly could be so cute? (Aww, thanks, Dax!)

Killa and Dax just found out that Kathleen is pregnant!

The Chick Pea

Kathleen and Dax found out that they are having a baby in late August 2009 (just before their trip to Australia). Kathleen's first doctor's appointment was in September after they returned from the trip. Here are ultrasound pictures (weeks nine and seven, respectively) of the "chick pea," or what they hope, fingers crossed, will someday resemble a baby.
